What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that uses gentle touch on the major energy centers or chakras of the body to promote relaxation and healing. Reiki, pronounced Ray-Key, is made up of two Japanese syllables meaning universal or spirit energy. Ki is the divine life-force energy present in all living things. During a Reiki treatment, a practitioner channels this life-force energy to promote healing and wellness throughout the body by supporting its own natural healing process. Reiki was discovered over 100 years ago by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan. Mrs. Hawayo Takata was one student of Usui Reiki that brought the practice to the United States. Since that time, Reiki has become a popular healing method throughout the Western world.

What is Reiki Jin Kei Do?

Reiki Jin Kei Do can be translated to “Reiki In the Way of Wisdom and Compassion.” This lineage of Reiki extends from a Buddhist monk named Seiji Takemori. Seiji Takemori learned the practice of Reiki during his time in a remote monastery in Japan where he became a Reiki Master under the teaching of Sensei Takeuchi, a zen monk and student of Usui. After spending three years in the monastery, Takemori felt compelled to search for the origins of Reiki. He journeyed throughout Asia, and eventually found a group of monks that practiced a larger healing technique that contained the teachings of Reiki, which Takemori came to call EnerSense. After learning all that he could from the monks, he went out into the world to teach what is now Reiki Jin Kei Do. Unlike other lineages, Reiki Jin Kei Do regards the practice of Reiki as a spiritual discipline, that integrates meditation, energy-awareness, healing techniques, and wisdom and compassion for both self and others to bring about deep transformation.
